3D Model Box
I decided to use a screen to project onto as this was the most suitable thing to do so. The dancer originally wanted to project onto the floor, however this would not have been as effective as an audience would not have been able to see the detail put into the film. A screen was chosen as it was the easiest and simplest thing for the film to be projected onto and to be seen clearly. The screen was only 2x1 Metres so that the film could be seen clearly, but so that it wouldn't take attention away from the dancer. I feel this was a suitable size to do so.
Material Justification and Overall Evaluation
Justification of Materials
The Frames of the projection screens were made from
softwood. This was the best choice as softwood is relatively cheap and strong
enough to be bolted together and be hung. Although the wood can splinter and
break easily, the wood is being framed with fabric so the way it looked was not
an issue and so it wouldn’t have been necessary to buy a dearer more attractive
looking wood.
The white material used was cotton, as it is cheaper from
thicker fabrics and as the frames are being hung, they won’t be handled that
often so we needn’t worry about the material ripping.
It had to be white as the projection would show more clearly
on this. If we had used a darker colour the projection would not have been able
to be seen.
Evaluation
Considering that the client brief only asked for something
small and basic, I feel as though it worked will with the piece it assisted.
The Projector Screen worked and the film was seen perfectly. The frame was built
accurately and safely and hung as it was designed to, and it didn’t take focus
off of the dancer.
Although I do feel as though the space looked bare, and
would have benefited with some set dressings however the dancer did not want
this. Although I feel that clothes scattered about the place, or ‘not for sale’
signs on flats may have looked better and accented the performance and made it
clearer to the audience what the piece was trying to communicate, the client
wanted bare space and so this was compromised with and the set consisted of
only one projection screen.
List of relevant suppliers and Budget
The suppliers I researched were chosen due to their locality. These stores/suppliers are either close enough to the college or will deliver so that no extra cost needed to be spent on travel. I also researched these suppliers due to word of mouth recomendation on cost. As we have a limited budget I began researching suppliers I knew off hand were cheap or did gret deals.
From the budget you can see that I chose Beers Ltd. and a suppler off of Ebay. These were selected merely on price. due to a limited budget I chose the cheapest suppliers therefore spending the least amount of money as possible.

Set Design Initial Sketches
These are initial skethces for my set design
This is the new plan for where the clothes will now be scattered.
After a meeting with the dancer/client, she also wished to add a net in the set, and so this has been accounted for.
An Initial idea was to have clothes hung from the rig with Fishing Wire to create the illusion that other people are in the space, however after watching the dance, it was apparent that these would get in the way of the high movement piece. Therefore the Projection will be onm the floor and the clothes will surround the performance space as apose to scattered throughout the space.
This is the new plan for where the clothes will now be scattered.
After a meeting with the dancer/client, she also wished to add a net in the set, and so this has been accounted for.
Now the net has been scrapped from the design, the projection will now play on a projection screen as appose to the floor. The projection screen will look like a large picture frame.
